Philip Dunne MP visited Tewkesbury based defence company L-3 TRL Technology yesterday as part of a visit hosted by Laurence Robertson MP to see Gloucestershire’s engineering capabilities.
Whilst at L-3 TRL the Minister met with Jim Chapman, CEO and the senior management team who took him through the innovative, market leading defence, security and counter terrorism solutions that are designed and manufactured here in Tewkesbury.
The Minister visited L-3 TRL to demonstrate his support to Gloucestershire-based defence companies to help promote defence exports in Britain.
“The visit was a great success” stated Jim Chapman, CEO of L-3 TRL, “The Minister was genuinely impressed with both our capabilities and the successes we have had over the years, despite the difficult marketplace, he was particularly impressed with the support and protection our equipment had provided to troops in Afghanistan over the years.” said Chapman, “The Minister was also very interested with our new recently launched international and commercial encryption offerings as part of the continuing battle against cyber terrorism.”
Mr Dunne commented "I was delighted to visit L-3 TRL in Tewkesbury to see the range of sophisticated equipment developed for Britain’s Armed Forces currently deployed on operations overseas. I was also reassured by L-3’s continued development of technology to help governments and commercial organisations defend their networks and infrastructure against the ever increasing threat of cyber-attack. The innovative technology being developed by L-3 highlights the importance of engineering skills to the local economy and the UK defence sector"
