L-3 TRL Technology Selected to Provide Medium Weight Electronic Surveillance Capability for the UK Ministry of Defence

GLOUCESTERSHIRE, United Kingdom, November 14, 2014

L-3 TRL Technology (L-3 TRL) announced today that it has been awarded the Medium Weight Electronic Surveillance Capability (MWESC) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). The capability will provide the UK Armed Forces with a modular and scalable land and littoral tactical electronic warfare solution able to support expeditionary operations.

The L-3 TRL solution is based on the company’s Military Off-The-Shelf (MOTS) networked tactical Electronic Warfare (EW) capability, which incorporates a fully integrated range of fused sensors and effectors, providing capabilities for Electronic Support Measures (ESM), Electronic Attack (EA), Integrated Electronic Warfare Command & Control (IEW C2) and secure IP-based communications.

L-3 TRL’s Modular Electronic Warfare System (MEWS) forms the basis of the ESM component of the overall solution, which is supplemented by state-of-the-art situational awareness software technology provided by product partner QinetiQ. L-3 TRL’s new BROADSHIELD® MCS EA solution provides the additional EA capability to effectively manage and exploit the EM spectrum.

“We are delighted to be awarded this contract by the UK MOD,” said Richard Flitton, vice president of L-3 TRL’s Electronic Warfare business. “Our innovative IEW solution successfully utilizes a modular, scalable structure, providing complete capabilities within a very cost-efficient and value-added approach.”

Teaming partners with L-3 TRL for this new contract include Frazer-Nash Consultancy, Kongsberg and QinetiQ.
