Queen's Award Success Marks Expansion for TRL

Tewkesbury based defence supplier, TRL Technology enjoyed a double celebration on 22nd July 2009 after being honoured by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Sir Henry Elwes, who not only presented the firm with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for ‘Continuous Innovation’ but also officially opened its new manufacturing facility which will create a number of much needed jobs for the region.

TRL’s 400 strong workforce joined together to mark both events inside a marquee set-up in the grounds next to the new facility. Both celebrations came as a result of the success of TRL’s BROADSHIELD® range of electronic jamming systems which protect military and civilian personnel from the threat of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs), increasingly used by terrorists and insurgents worldwide.

RCIEDs are a growing concern for soldiers in the field as they provide the enemy with the consistent capability to cause injury and death at the optimum moment. By jamming the radio frequencies of these devices and preventing detonation, the BROADSHIELD® equipment provides life-saving protection for military frontline troops and their vehicle convoys which are under continual threat from these devices on a day to day basis.

This is the second consecutive year that TRL has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. In 2008, TRL was recognised for its outstanding achievements in overseas revenue and commercial growth success and it achieved the Queen’s Award for International Trade.

“We are delighted to receive the Queen’s Award again this year” states Peter McKee, TRL President and CEO, “this recognition is testament to the hard work and commitment from the TRL team who are constantly developing our BROADSHIELD® systems to keep pace with emerging threats. Our new production facility has been set up to meet the huge demand for these systems”.

TRL designs, develops, manufactures and supports a wide range of electronic systems which are used by defence and government organisations across the world to protect people from hostile or illegal activities. The new manufacturing facility has been set up to accommodate the significant rise in BROADSHIELD® orders this year and will create a number of new jobs for the local area over the next few months.
