Principal Software Engineer

Summary of Position

To lead software development on communications and Electronic Warfare projects and programmes.

Main duties of this position
  • Requirements analysis and authoring of specifications for software systems.
  • Architectural design and documentation of software systems.
  • Leading implementation, test and debug of software.
  • Supporting the demonstration, deployment and maintenance of software systems.
  • Providing software technical authority for all or part of a project.
  • Contributing to the planning and estimation of project schedules.
  • Contribute to L-3 TRL’s software quality process.
  • Team management of a small team of software engineers.
  • Collaboration with hardware engineers to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.
  • Manage configuration control of source code.
  • Monitoring and reporting of the progress of development to the programme/project manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in electronics/physics/engineering related subject.
  • 10 years experience in industry
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a team leader
  • Solid C skills & experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Experience of embedded and real-time systems. Both low-level and high-level software.
  • Appreciations of requirements of good user interfaces.
  • Development on a range of target systems. Experience of a range of C compilers.
  • The ability to read and understand specifications and protocols.
  • Understanding and appreciation of underlying digital hardware.
  • Experience of tool chains and version control systems.


Highly Desirable:

  • Appreciation and experience of DSP techniques.
  • A familiarity with communication and/or Electronic Warfare systems.
  • C++ skills& experience.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of project management lifecycle.
