Master Scheduler

Summary of Position

To create and manage the Master Production Schedule for specific manufactured and purchased items that supports forecast and actual demands (internal & external customers) of the business, while considering supply constraints of material and capacity.  To provide support to all areas of the business to ensure the delivery of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and Materials Requirements Plan (MRP).

Main duties of this position
  • Participate fully in the Sales & Operations Planning process by providing MPS / MRP and capacity plans.
  • Maintain a realistic (no past dues) and achievable (with agreed capacity) manufacturing plans at all times in MPS / MRP.
  • Ensure manufacturing and purchasing plans clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
  • Monitor achievement of MPS / MRP and ensure proactive notification of any delay.
  • Assist the company in winning business and contribute to the Opportunity Management process by coordinating Manufacturing’s inputs to all customer bids, proposals and orders:
  • Provide accurate and timely information on MPS availability and associated key constraints of lead times and capacity.
  • Liaise with the Finance representative on bids to ensure accurate material and labour costs are used using quotes or estimates where bid volumes vary from standard cost quantities.
  • Represent Manufacturing at Bid Review and Order Acceptance meetings.
  • Liaise with Programme Managers, Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Manufacturing Engineers in planning new products:
  • Participate in all new product Integrated Project Teams (IPT’s) to provide accurate and timely information on MPS availability and associated key constraints of lead times and capacity.
  • Ensure that new product project plans are represented in the manufacturing plan so that all (actual & forecast) development requirements are captured in MPS / MRP and capacity plans.
  • Ensure that inventory transactions, specifically despatch confirmations, are accurately and promptly reflected in the MPS.
  • Continually review and improve Planning activities, systems and processes. Also contribute towards continuous improvement projects in other manufacturing and business areas.
  • To monitor and proactively manage departmental KPI’s relating to MPS / MRP.
  • To provide planning and schedule advice in support of the Supply Chain team.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed with particular reference to ethical standards.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant Supply Chain planning experience in an electro-mechanical environment.
  • Expert knowledge of modern planning tools including S&OP, MPS, RCCP, MRP & CRP.
  • Experience of ERP systems development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
  • Customer focused with a good understanding of the issues involved in the demand process and sales planning.
  • Able to contribute at a strategic level in developing operations and other aspects of the business.

Desirable

  • Defence Industry experience.
  • Experience of Sage Line 500.
Special Features
  • The current IT infrastructure does not support integrated MPS planning, warehouse and manufacturing management without numerous interfaces with Excel, Access and other databases.
  • The role requires a good understanding and high level of competence in data manipulation and management.
