High Level Systems Architect

Summary of Position

The high level system architect will be central to the continued development of our business transition to higher level system and system of system architectures and platforms for strategic advantage. The post holder will produce system and sub-system architectures and top level designs, preparing specs and systems technical statements of work for suppliers. Additionally, the post holder will provide expertise regarding system integration and validation, verification and test (VV&T) activities across the company.

Main duties of this position
  • Generate high level systems architectures
  • Lead technical proposal generation.
  • Leading technical teams for bids, studies and projects
  • Market analysis (from a technical standpoint)
  • Elicitation of User Requirements
  • Preparation of Requirement Specifications for systems & subsystems
  • Preparation of ICDs systems & subsystems.
  • Preparation of technical Statements of Work for equipment suppliers
  • Support to informal/formal Verification, Validation & Test Activities
  • Supporting end-user-trials and customer feedback sessions
  • Support to System Integration and commissioning trials at customer installations
  • Presenting confidently, articulately and convincingly to senior management and customers regarding the strategic impact of respective technical solutions and required architectures.
  • Representing the company on various working groups, consortia and industry bodies.
  • Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, and make an input as required to cross-functional projects/investigations, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan.
  • Carry out team planning, risk management and quality activities in assigned areas in line with all requirements and processes.
  • Provide effective support to customers in assigned areas, delivering solutions to meet the customer's needs and requirements plus the programme plan.
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.
  • Manage and report against the team's work programmes, including analysis of risk to ensure the team delivers it's accountabilities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential Significant, relevant experience:

  • Minimum of ten years experience in the design, development and fielding electronics systems onboard military platforms (vehicles essential, other platforms an advantage).
  • Expert level knowledge of systems engineering principles and corresponding evidence of direct application of the vee-model.
  • Evidence of application of tools such as UML, MoDAF and modern System Engineering CASE tools .
  • Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Sub-System Specification, System Test and Integration)
  • Experience in a Systems Architectural or Systems Engineering role, familiar with the traditional systems engineering lifecycle
  • An appreciation of digital hardware, software and RF engineering disciplines
  • An appreciation of contemporary software engineering across a broad range of applications (PC-based, real-time & embedded).
  • An appreciation of contemporary military communication topologies and architectures, both LOS and BLOS.
  • Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
  • Practical knowledge of algorithm development
  • Evidence of mentoring and staff development of less experienced team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Gravitas and leadership skills commensurate with this senior technical role.
