Gloucestershire-based defence manufacturer L-3 TRL Technology announced today that it has chosen the Midlands Air Ambulance for their Charity of Choice for 2014. The decision was made by employees of the 350 strong company via an internal vote.

Employees across the business will be encouraged to organise various events throughout the year to raise as much money as possible; activities such as a charity bike ride and various bake’n’buy days have already been scheduled. Every penny raised will then be matched by the company at the end of the year, increasing the total amount donated to Midlands Air Ambulance.

“We wish to positively engage with our community by supporting local charities” said Jim Chapman, CEO at L-3 TRL Technology. “We are pleased to be able to support such a vital service to the community that provides life-saving care across the counties."

The Midlands Air Ambulance is the only charity responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the communities of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. This constitutes the largest air ambulance operating region in the UK.

Since 1991, the charity has responded to more than 40,000 missions averaging 3,000 per year or nearly ten each day, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.

“It is with great gratitude that the Midlands Air Ambulance has another local company’s support. We are delighted that L-3 TRL Technology will be supporting us in 2014,” said Susie Godwin, Regional Fundraising Manager for Gloucestershire for Midlands Air Ambulance. “What is not widely known is that we don’t receive any Government or National Lottery funding. In excess of £6 million is needed each year to keep our three air ambulances operational which is donated entirely by the public and local businesses like L-3 TRL.”

L-3 TRL Technology protects people worldwide from current and evolving threats through market leading defence and security solutions and its decision to support a local charity falls in line with their Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy to support and enhance their engagement with the local community.
