Royal visit to L-3 TRL

His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent was accompanied by HM Lord Lieutenant Elwes for a visit to L-3 TRL Technology in Tewkesbury on Tuesday 3rd March 2009. HRH requested the visit having heard about the products and services provided by L-3 TRL which protect people worldwide from acts of terrorism and other harmful threats.

“The visit to L-3 TRL by His Royal Highness went very well”, states Peter McKee, Managing Director for L-3 TRL, “He was clearly very impressed by the company’s capabilities and obviously knowledgeable about the threats that coalition troops and civilians face.”

The visit included a tour of L-3 TRL’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities where HRH was given various demonstrations of the different stages of manufacture including the use of fully automated test equipment. HRH was especially interested in the BROADSHIELD® Force Protection equipment which provides life-saving protection for frontline troops in theatre from the threat of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs) which are one of the major causes of injury and death to soldiers in the field.

Accompanying the Duke, the Lord Lieutenant Elwes enjoyed his second visit to L-3 TRL, after presenting the company with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade in July last year.
