TRL sponsors classroom as part of Tewkesbury School crowd funder

As part of an ongoing partnership with Tewkesbury School, L3 TRL Technology has contributed £1,000 to the school’s recent crowd funder campaign to raise funds to refurbish its design and technology facilities.

TRL will be sponsoring a classroom in the newly refurbished facility which is due to be completed in 2018. The classroom will be primarily used for electronics teaching as well as teaching students in related STEM subjects.

Byron Price, Corporate Social Responsibility lead for TRL, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Tewkesbury School in their project to improve these important facilities that will educate and inspire the engineers of the future. It’s vital that we invest in the skills and capabilities of the next generation as we look to close the growing skills gap in engineering and technology. Our contribution to this campaign builds on our existing partnership arrangement with the school which includes providing work experience opportunities and careers advice”.

Martin Thomas, Director of Business Management at Tewkesbury School, said: “Tewkesbury Business Partners is a new initiative aimed at linking businesses to Tewkesbury School. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from businesses who are keen to work with the school to enhance their future workforce and provide improved educational and career outcomes for our young people.

“We are really pleased that TRL are now one of our partners and are sponsoring one of the soon to be refurbished Design and Technology rooms. We look forward to seeing their interactions with our young people and the opportunities they can offer. It is an exciting time here at Tewkesbury School and it will be good to collaborate with TRL over the coming years.”

Tewkesbury School has also secured £1.3m worth of funding from the Education Funding Agency Condition Improvement Fund with a commitment by the school to raise a further £130k towards the project.

TRL won the Employer of the Year award at the Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Awards 2017 and was also shortlisted for the Developing Future Talent Award at this year’s HR Distinction Awards.
